The Municipality of Polis Chrysochous is awaiting an update from the Ministry of Transport on the schedules of the procedures for the second phase of the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous motorway project, so that the motorway can be completed and reach Polis Chrysochous, says Polis Chrysochous Mayor Giotis Papachristofi.
In his statements to the CNA, Mr. Papachristofi said that the Environmental Study for the second phase of the works of the Paphos-Limassol motorway is currently being updated.
Regarding the first phase, he said that work has begun and includes the construction of an interchange for connection to the Limassol-Paphos highway, a roundabout in Tsada and one at the finish point after Stroumpi.
Provision is also made for the construction of two tunnels 720m long. and 290m. each, five viaducts with a total length of 1,500m, two overpasses and nine underpasses, he continued.
Finally, the Mayor of Polis Chrysochous noted that due to the uphill slope of the road, additional lanes will be constructed over a long length (about 12 km). In its entirety, the highway will be 31 km long and will be completed in two phases, he said.
Moreover, in relation to the issue of the expansion of the port of Latchi, Mr. Papachristofi noted that the evaluation by the Ports Authority of the submitted financial offers of the tender for the provision of Consulting Services for the plans and supervision of the project is in progress.
Indicatively, he noted that in 2024 the construction works are expected to begin and the operation is expected in 2026. He added that the project costs 45 million, will triple its capacity and the size of the port basin and 350 new berths of new standards will be created.
