DEPARTMENT OF FORESTS - IT IS FORBIDDEN TO LIGHT A FIRE IN NON-DESIGNATED AREAS

Filenews 22 February 2023

The Department of Forests notes that during the exit of the public to the forests and the countryside, on the occasion of the holiday of Clean Monday, it is strictly forbidden to light a fire for the preparation of food except for the specially designed grills that the Department of Forests has built in the picnic areas.

"We show the necessary respect for the environment and keep the site clean," it said in a statement.

At the same time, he urges the public to collect all the garbage he will create and place it in garbage cans or take it with him.

"If we leave them even in plastic bags, they will be scattered by stray dogs, cats and foxes," he adds.

He also urges the public to avoid cutting or uprooting wildflowers and shrubs, as many of them are strictly protected, while some may be endemic and in danger of extinction.

As the Department of Forests states, because in some areas there is a strong infestation of pine trees by the pityocampus insect this year, the public should be especially careful, avoid sitting under or near affected pine trees and avoid coming into contact with the caterpillar of the insect.

Finally, he notes that anyone who comes into contact with the insect's caterpillar and presents skin problems should seek medical advice and care.
