A coordinated operation was carried out by the Paphos Police to prevent road traffic collisions in the context of which 63 complaints were made in a 24-hour period, with most of them involving speeding.
According to the spokesperson of the Paphos ADE and head of the Paphos ICF, Michalis Nikolaou, out of the 63 traffic complaints made in a 24-hour period, 22 concern speeding. One person was driving his vehicle under the influence of alcohol, one under the influence of drugs, while the rest of the complaints concern lesser traffic offenses.
According to Mr. Nikolaou, on January 19, at 15:35, members of team Z were conducting traffic checks in Geroskipou and stopped a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old in whose possession a quantity of cannabis weighing about 14 grams was found.
Questioned, the 22-year-old said he possessed the drugs for his own use. He was subsequently charged in writing by the YKAN and released. A drug test he underwent was positive. An additional sample was taken to be sent for scientific examinations to the General Chemical State Laboratory.
