The Larnaca District Court today issued an eight-day detention order against a 30-year-old woman from Greece, to facilitate YKAN's interrogations, in relation to an investigated case involving conspiracy to commit a felony, illegal supply, import, possession and possession of a controlled drug by another person and for the purpose of supplying another person, i.e. a quantity of cannabis weighing about 6.5 kg.

As Stelios Sergides, spokesperson of YKAN, said, "the 30-year-old girl arrived around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, at Larnaca airport from Greece. For the import of the drugs there was information from YKAN, which was evaluated and forwarded to the Department of Customs and Excise of Larnaka airport".

He added that "the girl was intercepted at the airport by members of the YKAN in cooperation with customs officers and a search was carried out on her luggage. Hidden in pillowcases, two nylon packages containing cannabis, totalling about 6.5 kg, were found and seized."

It further stated that "the 30-year-old was arrested for an offence and taken into custody to facilitate interrogations, but it appears that she is not cooperating with the authorities. The members of YKAN are conducting investigations to identify both the girl's associates in Cyprus and in Greece."

After the drugs were detected by customs officers, the 30-year-old allegedly threw her mobile phone to the ground and tried to break it.

The suspect was brought before the Larnaca District Court today, which issued a detention order against her for eight days.

The case is being investigated by the Larnaca District Unit of YKAN.
