The bag of Aeolus, for the suitability of the products available in festivals held throughout Cyprus, is opened by the identification of unapproved foods and alcoholic beverages, prepared for the needs of the Pancyprian Pomegranate Festival, on the ground floor of the Community Council of Ormidia. Following a complaint received from a visitor to the festival, which took place on September 30 in the community park of the community, the Health Services proceeded on Tuesday to confiscate the stock of products, which were found to be sold, at the entrance of the Community Council of Ormidia and in the warehouses. It was found that the products manufactured, such as pomegranate soutzoukos, pomegranate liqueur, pomegranate zivania, pomegranate jam, etc., were not labelled, as required by law, and were prepared in an unapproved place.
The information of "F" for the identification of the unapproved products, confirmed the deputy head of the Health Services, Herodotos Herodotou, saying that the case will take the path of justice. "All quantities have been committed. For us, the place where they were prepared does not meet the provisions of the legislation, we believe that they should be destroyed and a case file will be prepared to proceed with the case."
Mr. Herodotou indicated that those who hold festivals for the preparation of products should use premises, registered in the Register of Health Services, to be inspected, noting that each packaged food must be appropriately labeled. "According to the legislation, every packaged product must necessarily have some information, such as weight, name, ingredients and if allergenic substances are present, they must be listed in a way that stands out. In addition, the name and address of the manufacturer must be indicated. Also for alcoholic beverages, there is legislation of the Department of Agriculture, which has specific provisions. For example, you can't talk about pomegranate zivania, since zivania is made from grapes."
Asked by "F" to comment on the issue, the president of the community of Ormidia, Christoforos Kassiouris, said that in all festivals in all communities nationwide, "as usual products are made in premises or volunteer houses". He also noted that the stock of products, after the realization of the festival, is sold by the Community Council and the proceeds are donated to the community grocery store, to support the needy families. "It was all sealed in bottles. The only mistake they have is that they don't have the ISO on it. But in no festival in Cyprus do the products have ISO, because they are made by volunteers".
