LIMASSOL GENERAL HOSPITAL - INAUGURATION OF NEW MRI SCANNER

 Filenews 11 October 2022

The inauguration of the MRI took place today at the Limassol General Hospital.

"A constant request from the medical community of the Hospital, but also from the patients themselves, is finally becoming a reality", stressed the Minister of Health Michalis Hatzipantelas in his speech.

"The MRI scanner that was installed and operates, cost €2.4 million, including its maintenance period. It is of the most modern technology, with many possibilities and is a multi-tool to support all Medical Specialties, but mainly for the TAEP and inpatients," he added.

"Its operation will help in the early diagnosis and will end the suffering of patients who were transferred either to Nicosia General Hospital or to the private sector. Especially, young children can now receive an MRI examination under anaesthesia and safely, at the Hospital where they are being treated, without having to be transferred to another Hospital. The Science of Medicine is constantly developing and needs support from modern medical equipment. It is for this reason that the Ministry of Health and the Government have included a significant budget in the Resilience and Recovery Plan, for the modernization of medical equipment, both in the public and private sector.

It is with great pleasure that I was also informed about the acquisition of a new machine at the Department of Nuclear Medicine (SPECT-CT), worth €807,000, which is one of the three such machines that exist throughout Cyprus, as well as a new modern digital angiography (€1.4 million), which will help in the further development of Interventional Cardiology.

In addition, the announcement of tenders for a new state-of-the-art CT scanner is in progress, which will be faster than the existing one, with more clarity, will be able to perform angiographies of coronary vessels and at the same time will burden patients with lower doses of radiation.

This shows that the SHSO invests in modern digital technology, for the benefit of its Hospitals, but mainly for the patient himself."
