PAPHOS - ARCHAEOLOGY MEETS TECHNOLOGY

The preparation of management plans is a well-known process for the cases of communities and areas. Now, the process "touches" for the first time in our place an archaeological site, due to its huge area and its major importance on a global level. The reason for the Archaeological Park of Kato Pafos, for which the Department of Antiquities introduces the relevant procedure for its protection and upgrade. Specifically, the Department of Antiquities has in progress elaborated a management plan for the Archaeological Site of Nea Pafos and the Tombs of the Kings, with the aim of increasing the safety and protection of archaeological treasures, but also introducing new technologies that will contribute to their promotion and facilitate the information of its thousands of visitors.

The competent Department has replaced all the fencing in the archaeological sites of Nea Pafos and the Tombs of the Kings, completed the maintenance and restoration works of the traditional house on the hill of Fabrica, while the maintenance works of the traditional house near the House of Dionysos in Nea Paphos are being completed.

At the same time, the maintenance works of the Visitors' Centre in Nea Paphos and the renovation of the shop were carried out, while the conservation works of the mosaics continue in the House of the Four Seasons, in the Baths of Triton, in the Roman House east of the House of Dionysus and in the Mosaic of Aphrodite. The installation of a security system at the archaeological site of Nea Pafos is also underway, while the design for the installation of security systems at the archaeological site of the Tombs of the Kings, as well as the planning for the renovation of the sanitary areas of the archaeological site of Nea Pafos, will be completed.

In addition, according to competent officials, a specific action plan has recently been completed, which included the installation of touch screens, the creation of informative videos, a digital application for smart devices as well as audiovisual tour services. At the same time, the installation of free internet infrastructure has been completed throughout the archaeological site of Nea Pafos.

"All these actions are in line with the provisions of the management plan of the Archaeological Park and are expected to contribute to the efforts made by various bodies regarding the further promotion and promotion of the archaeological heritage of the province, but also to the upgrading of the visitors' experience", according to the same factors.

The technological and other upgrades to the most important archaeological site of Cyprus and one of the most important in the world, are implemented in the framework of the European cultural tourism project "Culture and Heritage for Responsible, Innovative and Sustainable Tourism Actions" and in collaboration with the Department of Antiquities, for the last two years. This is an important action plan of €35,000, as part of which two interactive touchscreens were installed in the area of the park's visitor centre. An 82 inch screen will show images of the park, while preparations are in progress for the preparation of a three-minute film to further highlight the archaeological site.

The whole action is in line with the provisions of the management plan of the Archaeological Park and is expected to contribute to the efforts made by the Department of Antiquities and local bodies for the promotion of the archaeological heritage of the province.

The technological upgrades in the Archaeological Park acquire particular importance since from this year the entire archaeological site of the city enters essentially a new era with the completion of the huge project of unification of antiquities that is already in progress.
