There has been concern in Turkey in recent hours, due to a scenario circulating about the stance taken by the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Finland's and Sweden's accession to NATO.
In particular, there are rumours that Turkey may veto the accession of these countries in order to exert pressure on the F-16 as well.
As the Open correspondent in Istanbul, Maria Zacharaki, reported, however, such a move, if it happened, would be risky, especially at a time when Turkey is turning to the West.
It will be recalled that when she arrived in Turkey a few weeks ago, the US Secretary of State, Victoria Nuland, said that she would like there to be a united front on the issue of accession.
Russian threats
At the same time, a wave of concern has been caused by the threats unleashed on Thursday by Russia, culminating in the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO.
"Russia will be forced to retaliate, both militarily-technical and of another nature," noted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, adding that Finland's accession to NATO would "definitely" pose a threat to Russia.
