The project of creating the modern network of public transport infrastructure in the tourist area of Pafos is continuing, but at a pace far from satisfactory. This is supported by factors of the professional life of the tourist area, referring to excessively slow procedures for the implementation of projects.
This project essentially marks the practical beginning of the procedures for the transformation of Pafos into a smart city, they point out, so further provisions should be taken for its rapid pace of promotion. Instead, shopkeepers and other economic operators argue, the works are continuing in a problematic manner at the harbour.
The new infrastructure of public transport of Pafos, concern, in addition to the main facilities in "Karavela" and coastal front, another 173 points which have been categorized into three categories, depending on whether the bus stops can cover eight expected passengers or four, or whether they are simply points where there is no shelter but only a sign indicating a bus stop. The preferred bidder will bear the cost of installing the stops, their maintenance and the repairs that may be needed during the 10-year contract that has been signed. After the expiration of the contract, the bus stops will be delivered to the Municipality in a fully operational condition.
The new canopies will be modern constructions in terms of construction material, with European standards, will offer wi-fi, will include screens for displaying advertisements and bus routes. At the points where there are only indications of stopping and not shelter, it is up to the preferred bidder whether to place shelters there as well or if due to low traffic it maintains the current situation.
At the same time, the relevant process continues in the tourist area after the removal of the transfer station from the port for the new infrastructure that will be created in the area. Procedures, shout the businessmen of the region, that only cause problems at the beginning of the tourist season due to the slow pace of their promotion.
