The date of the new round of talks were reportedly given by Moscow and Kiev, just hours after the first meeting of the two delegations on the Ukraine-Belarus border and while Russian forces continue their deployment for the sixth day in Ukraine.
As reported by Russian media, citing Ukrainian sources, the new round of talks will probably take place tomorrow, 2 March, something that the Russian side had announced yesterday.
The meeting is expected to take place this time, unless shockingly unexpected, on the Belarus-Poland border, with expectations remaining low.
It is noted that the two sides returned after the contacts they had in their home countries, but it was agreed to sit down again at the negotiating table in the next few days.
The head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinski, said that common ground had been found in the talks, according to which common positions could be reached in the future. However, Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, said in a video message that "in talks with Russia there is not the result that Kiev wants."
The terms of Russia
For his part, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, had a telephone conversation with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, and set specific conditions for the termination of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, which are as follows:
- The recognition of Russian sovereignty in Crimea
- Demilitarization
- The elimination of the Nazis of the Ukrainian state,
- The neutral regime in Kiev
