UK EXPATS - CYPRUS VOTING BOOKS POST BREXIT

CYPRUS VOTING BOOKS

It is understood that letters are being received asking UK expats to return their voting books.  The letter does not tell you the address to return your book to, just quotes a phone no for you to ring.

I am waiting for the British High Commission to get back to me as they were fighting for the UK expats to retain their vote in the Cypriot local elections, post-Brexit.  Some European countries have allowed their expats to retain their vote, despite the fact that this issue was not covered under the Brexit agreement.  I suspect asking us to return voting books is a little premature!

You will recall that there was mention in the Cypriot press last year that UK expats had lost their voting rights, but nothing has officially been issued, to my knowledge, either to the press, via the Government Press Office, nor to the British High Commission.

Firstly, could I suggest that you hold on to your voting book for the time being, until a response is received from the BHC.

Secondly, to save you a phone call, the voting books should be returned to the District Office in Paphos [for those who live in the Paphos District], opposite Caffe Nero near the market - for the attention of Mrs Gregoria.
