Angry reactions have been recorded in recent days once again by the businessmen of the Pafos coastal front, after the realization that the large-scale works that continue at the entrance of the archaeological park and the port of Kato Pafos, have stopped again.
Shopkeepers complain that for days the crews who worked in the area where the transfer station of the Pafos Transport Organization was located, have "disappeared" from the area and express fear that new serious problems are being created due to the slow pace of execution of the project. They also reinstate the request they have already submitted to state agencies and the Municipality of Pafos for immediate measures to be taken in order for the contractor's crews to accelerate on a continuous basis the pace of promotion of works.
The professionals of the region point out that both the extent of the changes taking place at the entrance of the "heart" of tourism, as well as the period of time that these continue, create the need to promote immediately and without the slightest delay the works.
"It is inconceivable that the entire tourism industry is out of service for a whole year," they said, "and with its reactivation facing such unforeseen problems and delays. The Municipality of Pafos and the competent state departments must move immediately and urgently towards the contractor's side in order to immediately change the situation that has been created again in recent days".
In addition to the delays in the works, local businessmen and citizens who visit the port late in the afternoon and early in the evening also refer to an unacceptable situation prevailing in the parking lot of the Archaeological Park due to the lack of lighting.
"This is a situation that causes fear to many residents," they argue, "since in this vast space there is literally not a single lamp lit these days. If you don't have a flashlight on your phone, you have a hard time moving around the space."
The protesters are demanding that these problems be regulated immediately, while we are going through a winter season with little tourist flow.
