3,959 CASES AND FOUR DEATHS - Saturday

Four deaths due to coronavirus announced Ministry of Health, while another 3,959 new positive cases of the virus were identified. At the same time, another 19 cases were identified in nursing homes.

Specifically:

  • 4 people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 654.
  • 244 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 83 are in serious condition. 77.05% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
  • 18 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
  • A total of 152,238 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 3,959 (positivity rate: 2.6%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 201,360.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The 4 people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:

- Woman, aged 97 years, who died on January 8 at Larnaka General Hospital.

- Man, aged 63 years, who died on January 8 at Larnaka General Hospital

- Man, aged 82 years, who died on January 8 at the General Hospital of Famagusta.

- Woman, aged 82 years, who died on January 8 at the General Hospital of Famagusta.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 654, of which:

  • 413 men (63.1%), and
  • 241 women (36.9%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 244 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 83 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 83 patients who are in serious condition, 26 are intubated, 7 are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 50 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 152,238 diagnoses performed, 14,243 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 137,995 by the antigen rapid test, 3,959 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 153 cases from 1,065 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 72 cases from 4,062 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 767 cases from 8,534 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 31 cases from 452 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1,681 cases from 73,232 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 1,252 cases from 64,763 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
  • 3 cases from 130 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
