A yellow warning for a storm was issued by the Meteorological Service.
According to a relevant announcement, the warning is valid from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
It says that isolated strong thunderstorms are expected to affect various areas of the island and the intensity of rain may exceed 35 millimetres per hour, while hail is very likely.
In detail, the weather forecast:
Temporary disturbance will affect the island today, while from Tuesday onwards barometric low centred in Greece moving slowly eastwards affecting the weather of the Eastern Mediterranean.
Today, the weather will be mostly cloudy, with rain and local storms. Hail is likely. From early afternoon onwards, a noticeable improvement in the phenomena is expected. The temperature will rise to around 18 degrees in the interior and on the coast and around 9 degrees in the higher mountains.
Tonight, there will be locally increased low clouds, while in the early hours locally, mainly in the interior and the eastern coastal areas, there will be sparse fog and low clouds. The temperature will drop to around 9 degrees in the interior, around 13 degrees in the south and east coasts, around 14 degrees in the west and north coasts and around 4 degrees in the higher mountains.
On Monday, temporarily elevated cloudiness observed may give some areas isolated light rain. On Tuesday, the weather will be partly cloudy in the morning and locally isolated rains are expected, however from late afternoon onwards a worsening of the weather is expected, with local rains and isolated thunderstorms, initially from the west. On the highest peaks of Troodos it is expected to snow. On Wednesday, the weather will remain unsettled, with rain, isolated thunderstorms as well as snow in the higher mountains.
The temperature will rise on Monday and not change significantly on Tuesday and will fluctuate slightly above the average climatic values. On Wednesday, a noticeable drop in temperature is expected, to be below the average climatic values.
