Filenews 5 December 2021
The Police announce a week of Pancyprian traffic checks to prevent road collisions with an emphasis on driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
The roadside inspections, which will be carried out by the Traffic Police Departments, start from tomorrow Monday 06 December, 2021 and will last until Sunday, December 12, 2021, while they will be carried out simultaneously and at a European level, within the framework of the cooperation of the Cyprus Police with the European Roadpol Police Network.
During traffic checks, it is stressed that there will be zero tolerance for traffic offences that contribute to fatal and serious road collisions.
It should be noted that careless driving/distraction, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, have been in the last three years in Cyprus, the first two main causes of fatal road collisions with a percentage of 20.8% and 27.8% respectively.
After all, around 25% of all road deaths caused on the roads of the European Union are demonstrably due to driving under the influence of alcohol.
At the same time, as is well known, the use of narcotic substances contributes to the reduction of mental and psychological effort made while driving, but also to the reduction of the driver's performance, by increasing the risk of being involved in a road traffic collision.
