Do not plan for the Christmas table yet, since restrictions on gatherings are probably coming. The significant increase in the number of people hospitalized with coronavirus in the last ten days, the continuous upward trend in the number of daily cases, as well as the mutation "omikron" which seems to be spreading rapidly in Cyprus, do not seem to leave any more room for avoiding strict restrictions by the Government, since as it is generally noted, the measures currently in force have probably not helped to stop the spread of the virus in society.
Already some of the scientists, in their statements and in the teleconference held by the TEU on Thursday night, talked about reducing the number of people per gathering with the measure including family gatherings, while slowly all the members of the Advisory Scientific Committee, even those who had reacted last September when the proposal was put on the table by the head of the TEU Konstantinos Tsioutis, they seem to be now proposing to test, as a prerequisite for entering specific places and participating in specific activities, including all with vaccination history without exception.
However, regardless of what the scientists are discussing among themselves, the Minister of Health, Michalis Hadjipantelas, sent on Friday, as reported by the information provided by "F", to the A.E.C., the letter/ proposal of the Federation of Patients' Associations of Cyprus, which made its intervention asking for the adoption of additional measures, which aim at curbing the spread and the lifting of some measures that are currently in force and do not seem to help to the maximum extent of this at the moment, in the face of the outbreak.
The recommendations of the members of the TEU are expected to be put before the Minister of Health Michalis Chatzipandelas today and the possibility of submitting even more proposals is great, as some of the members of the Committee, following the practice they have applied since last June, when their request for granting "legal immunity" was not met, avoid making their positions public.
Announcements for the adoption of additional measures may be made even tomorrow, after the scheduled meeting of the Council of Ministers.
