One person has died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 620, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.
175 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 60 are in serious condition. 79.32% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
9 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
A total of 59,828 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test, of which 448 were identified (positivity rate: 0.75% new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 145,161.
Today's results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 1 person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:
- A man, aged 87, who died on December 18th in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 620, of which:
- 395 men (63.7%), and
- 225 women (36.3%).
The average age of those voted by the disease is 75.8 years.
B. Hospitalized:
In total, 175 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 60 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 60 patients who are in serious condition, 22 are intubated, 2 are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 36 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 59,828 diagnoses performed, 9,415 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 50,413 by the antigen rapid test method, 448 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:
- 9 cases from 159 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
- 49 cases from 6,605 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
- 68 cases out of 2,316 samples taken through private initiative.
- 1 case from 102 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 127 cases from 23,931 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 194 cases from 26,482 samples tested using the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- 0 cases from 232 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
- 0 cases from 1 sample taken as part of checks in closed facilities.
