SELF TESTS AVAILABLE FROM TUESDAY AT PHARMACIES

 Filenews 20 December 2021

Self-tests are put at the disposal of the citizens who have completed their vaccination regimen, through pharmacies that are contracted with the GHS.

According to a relevant announcement of the Ministry of Health, self-tests are available from today in pharmacies and from tomorrow citizens who have completed their vaccination will be able to obtain them free of charge.

It is noted that each citizen will be provided with a package that includes five self tests. Self-tests will be provided by GHS-contracted pharmacies, with beneficiaries presenting proof of identification. Beneficiaries are people who have completed their vaccination regimen.

For those people who have completed their vaccination program in Cyprus and are not beneficiaries of the GHS, they will be able to receive the self-tests from points that will be indicated to them in each district.

In an earlier report by philenews, Dr. Petros Karagiannis expressed his concerns on whether the measure of self-tests will work as well as whether citizens will comply and inform the competent services about the positive results that will arise.

He also mentioned that the way of using self-tests is exactly the same as rapid tests and PCRs and explained that the only difference is that citizens will be able to do them on their own. However, as he pointed out, it is important that these tests are done correctly so that correct results can be obtained. As he characteristically noted, if the sample is not taken from the nose or if the reagents are not mixed correctly and placed on the board as they should, then the results will not be valid.
