High dust concentrations are observed today, Monday in the atmosphere according to the measurements of the Department of Labour Inspection. At the same time, the next three days the weather will be mostly cloudy and local rain and snow are expected in the higher mountains.
Because the powder contains small-sized inhalable particles, which may have a negative effect on human health, the public and especially vulnerable population groups (children, the elderly and the sick) are encouraged to avoid circulating in open spaces until the phenomenon is over.
Employers must take appropriate measures (organizational or even technical), after assessing the risks to their employees who are in open spaces and employees in such areas are advised to use appropriate means of personal protection.
For information, the last hourly dust concentration values measured at 7:00 a.m. in the following areas were:
Nicosia: 60.1 μg/m3
Limassol: 102.9 μg/m3
Larnaca: 59.2 μg/m3
Paralimni: 61.7 μg/m3
Paphos: 90.0 μg/m3
Zygi: 44.9 μg/m3
Agia Marina Xyliatou: 61.4 μg/m3
The weather forecast
Weak high pressure affects the area and low pressure is expected from Tuesday. Dust will be observed in the atmosphere intermittently, until Wednesday.
Today Monday, the weather will be mostly cloudy, from medium and high clouds. The temperature will rise to around 21 degrees in the interior and on the coast and around 16 degrees in the higher mountains.
Tonight, the weather will remain mostly cloudy while locally isolated rains are expected. The temperature will drop to around 12 degrees in the interior, around 15 degrees on the coast and around 8 degrees in the higher mountains.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather will be mostly cloudy and local rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected, while in the higher mountains it is expected to snow.
On Thursday, periods of mostly cloudy weather will alternate with increased cloudiness that may give local rain or even thunderstorms, as well as snow in the higher mountains.
The temperature is expected to drop significantly over the three days, to be slightly below the average climatic values.
