TWO MEASURES TO COLLECT OUTSTANDING WARRANTS

Two moves are being taken by the authorities to boost the execution of the fine payment orders issued by the Courts. The day before yesterday's meeting at the Ministry of Justice, discussed the matter and decisions were taken. It is the second meeting to be held on the issue after the report of the Audit Office, which recorded that 93 thousand persons and companies owe €284 million in unexecuted orders for the payment of a fine to the state. Many of them concern Social Insurance.

According to information provided by "F", it was decided to give instructions to the provincial police teams that are in charge of the task of executing the warrants, to take more action and to emphasize those who owe large sums, always respecting the fact that many are facing financial problems due to the coronavirus pandemic.

At the same time, it was decided to create a new database in which the new warrants issued by the Courts would be registered, so that they can be better managed and the old ones remain, for which an effort will be made to be carried out gradually.

Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of Justice, the focus of the meeting was on investigating the extent to which technology is being used to facilitate debtors and to enhance collection possibilities, with the participation of the tools offered by all the services involved. At the same time, it is emphasized, it was decided to make the most of the existing systems with the simultaneous modernization and the effort to digitize the processes.

As underlined, all suggestions have been recorded and the Ministry of Justice will closely monitor the whole matter for the implementation of the decisions taken. At the same time, it was decided to set up a meeting within one month to oversee the results and further promote the decisions that have been taken.

The meeting, which took place under the chairmanship of the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Stefi Drakou, was attended by the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Kyriakos Kokkinos, the Chief of Police Stelios Papatheodorou, representatives of the Legal Service and all the services involved.
