J&J VACCINE - NEW POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECT ACKNOWLEDGED BY THE EMA

 Filenews 11 November 2021

Johnson & Johnson's Covid-19 vaccine is likely to be linked to rare cases of inflammation in the spine, the European Medicines Agency announced on Thursday, clarifying however that so far no causal link has been confirmed.

Severe neurological condition is called transverse myelitis, and so far the EMA has received reports of six cases.

As Reuters recalls, this condition had led to the temporary discontinuation of initial clinical trials for both J&J's vaccine and AstraZeneca's vaccine, which is based on the same viral vector technology.

In transverse myelitis, leakage of blood from the capillaries causes swelling and a drop in blood pressure.
