DECREE FOR THOSE WHO ARE VACCINATED WITH THE THIRD DOSE - AFFECTING THOSE IN EMPLOYMENT & SCHOOL CHILDREN

In the context of the actions taken to encourage vaccination with a booster dose as a measure to strengthen immunity in groups of the population that is observed to reduce it over time, the Council of Ministers approved a proposal by the Minister of Health, Mr. Michalis Hadjipantelas, for the granting of a rest permit to working citizens who are vaccinated with a booster dose, without the day being cut off from the worker's total annual rest leave and remuneration.

The Minister of Health, exercising the powers conferred on him by section 6(a), (b), (c), (d), (e) and (g) of the Infectious Diseases Law, Cap. 260 and which were assigned to him by the Decision of the Council of Ministers dated September 2, 2021, issues the following Decree:

Because, the protection of public health and the health care system are the responsibility of the Republic and due to the imperative need arising from the epidemiological data in order to limit the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus disease, to protect public health, but also to prevent a possible collapse of the health system from the spread of the virus, taking into account the requirements in human resources and logistical infrastructure that will be necessary to deal with it. the rapid spread of the virus and because it is becoming necessary to take the necessary measures, and because with a Notification published in the Official Gazette of the Republic, following the authorization of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Health declared as infected local areas with the COVID-19 Coronavirus under article 4 of the Infectious Diseases Law, Cap. 260, the Districts of Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Famagusta and Paphos.

Given that, taking into account that until November 3, 2021, 82.3% of the adult population received the first dose of the vaccine and 80% completed the vaccination regimen, but at the same time, from October 27 to November 3, 2021, 1,253 cases were recorded, while the average of those hospitalized daily ranges between 55 to 70 patients per day and given that during the above period 4 deaths of patients with the final cause of death, the covid-19 disease, were recorded, as well as that the positivity rate of diagnostic tests for the COVID-19 coronavirus disease, is close to 0.4%, the following Regulations are issued for the Districts of Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Famagusta and Paphos:

1. This Decree shall be referred to as the Infectious Diseases (Determination of Measures to Prevent the Spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus) Decree (No. 41) of 2021.

2. Regulation 80 of the Infectious Diseases (Determination of Measures to Prevent the Spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus) Decree (No. 40) of 2021, is repealed and replaced by the following new Regulation 80: "80.

(a) All employees in the private, public, wider public sector, as well as in the local authorities, may be absent from work throughout the day of their vaccination with a vaccine for the COVID-19 disease, without that day being deducted from the rest leave and the remuneration of the employee and provided that a vaccination certificate is presented:

Provided that, in the case of a two-dose vaccine, this paragraph shall apply to both days of vaccination: It shall be understood, furthermore, that this paragraph shall apply to the day of vaccination of the third booster dose, in the case of two-dose vaccines, and to the day of the vaccination of the second booster dose, in the case of single-dose vaccines: It is also understood that this paragraph also applies in the case of a parent/legal guardian of a child under the age of 18, provided that the parent/legal guardian accompanies his/her child for vaccination and provided that a certificate of vaccination of the child is presented,

(b) all pupils aged 12 to 17 may be absent from school throughout the day of their vaccination with a vaccine for the COVID-19 disease, with the granting of justified absence, without the days being cut off from the predetermined number of justified absences and provided that a vaccination certificate is presented:

Provided that, in the case of a two-dose vaccine, this paragraph shall apply to both days of vaccination.

3. This Decree shall enter into force upon its publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic.
