275 NEW CASES, ONE DEATH - WEDNESDAY

One person, aged 85, has died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 577, according to the Health Ministry's announcement.

72 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 24are in serious condition. 65.28% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

1 post-COVID patient who has ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continues to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

275 (positivity rate: 0.54%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified from 51,166 molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 126,772.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The one person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:

  • A man, aged 85, who ended up today at Paphos General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 577, of which:

  • 369 men (64%), and
  • 208 women (36%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 72 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 24 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 24 patients who are in serious condition, seven are intubated, two are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 15 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 51,166 diagnoses performed, 4,342 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 46,824 by the antigen rapid test method, 275 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 43 cases from 692 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 4 cases from 1,639 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 45 cases from 1,583 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 2 cases from 219 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 103 cases from 22,666 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 78 cases from 24,158 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 209 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
