94 NEW CASES, ONE DEATH - SUNDAY

One person has died due to coronavirus, while another 94 positive cases of the virus have been identified in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health.

Specifically:

  • One person died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 558.
  • 60 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 22 are in serious condition. 60% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
  • 10 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.
  • A total of 38,802 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 94 (positivity rate: 0.24%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 121,364.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The one person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:

  • A woman, aged 53, who ended up on October 9th in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 558, of which:

  • 354 men (63%), and
  • 204 women (37%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.3 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 60 patients of the COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 22 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 22 patients who are in serious condition, 11 are intubated in an Intensive Care Unit and 11 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 38,802 diagnoses made, 4,809 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 33,993 by the antigen rapid test, 94 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 6 cases from 3,442 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 25 cases from 1,312 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 1 case from 55 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 32 cases from 15,384 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 30 cases from 18,609 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
