In the arrest of the 69-year-old owner of the apartment complex in Chloraka, where yesterday members of the YAM, OPE and Paphos Traffic, identified eight asylum seekers who were violating the decree of the Minister of the Interior, the Paphos Police proceeded.
According to the Police, in addition to the obedience of the decree in the Aliens Act, the owner or responsible or holder of a residence or other premises located in the controlled areas by the Government of the Republic and which knowingly and for a fee allows the use of that residence and/or premises as a place of residence by a foreign person who is not permanently in the Republic is guilty of a criminal offence and is subject to imprisonment of up to four years, or a fine of up to €20,000 or both.
According to the history of the case, in the context of the operation carried out yesterday, eight applicants for international protection were found in a building complex in Chloraka in various apartments, which violated a decree of the Ministry of the Interior prohibiting applicants for international protection from residing within the administrative boundaries of the Chlorakas community.
All of them were transferred to the Paphos police directorate, where they were questioned in writing about the case under report and charged in writing to be later called to the Paphos District Court.
The offence of violating the Interior Ministry's decree on Chloraka and the Refugee Act is being investigated against the eight persons. The decree entered into force on 11.12.20.
