THE AVERAGE AGE OF NEW COVID-19 CASES IS NOW 23

At 23 years, the median age of new crown cases detected in the last 14 days remains, according to data from the National Report on Coronavirus. For hospitalized patients with COVID-19 the median age is 55 years.

As shown by the data, 31.5% of cases are patients aged 10-19 years while 30.1% are aged 20-29 years, which is attributed to low vaccination coverage.

In contrast, cases at older ages with high vaccination coverage range in single digits

Similarly, the burden on younger ages is also shown in the cumulative impact of 14 days. At ages 10-19 it is at 2402.5/100,000, in the 20-29 age group it is at 1585.3/100,000, while half are over 30 years old.

The cumulative impact is at 824.4/100,000 ice cubes, while per Province it is particularly aggravated in Famagusta (2006,1/100,000).

As of 8 July 2021, 80,529 cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in the Republic of Cyprus, with 380 deaths due to COVID-19 (COVID-19 mortality: 0.5%).

• The cumulative incidence of 14 days of COVID-19 (14-day diagnosed cases per 100,000 inhabitants) is 824.4.

• In the last 14 days (25 June - 8 July) 7,321 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were recorded:

o The median age of COVID-19 cases was 23 years (Intra-fourth-quarter range: 18-35 years), 54.2% for men (n= 3,969), 45.8% for women (n=3,349), while for 3 cases the information was not available at present.

o Based on epidemiological history, 3.8% (n=279) were cases with a recent travel history, while 96.2% (n=7.042) were for domestic transmission cases.

• On 8 July 2021, 112 people with COVID-19 (diagnosis until 8 July) were hospitalized (based on registered data including those discharged, transferred or died on that day). Their median age was 55 years (Intra-fourth-quarter range: 42 – 65 years), with 55.4% (n=62) for men and 46.4% (n=52) for people from Limassol province. Overall, 39 (37.1%) people with COVID-19 who were hospitalized reported underlying diseases.

• According to the registered data, 12 people (diagnosis until 8 July) were in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) – all 12 were rescued. The median age of COVID-19 patients in ICU was 66 years (Endo-fourth-molecular range: 60-70 years), while 9 cases (75%) men. In total, 5 people (41.7%) ICU had underlying diseases.
