THE MEDIAN AGE OF DECEASED DUE TO COVID-19 IS 77

"The median age of individuals who ended up with the underlying cause of COVID-19 disease has decreased from 82 years in 2020 to 77 years in 2021," the Ministry of Health said in an update on the course of deaths from Covid-19 disease in Cyprus.

Summary of the basics:

The data analysis period is March 2020 to July 2021.

• As of 14 July 2021, 460 deaths of people diagnosed with COVID-19 have been reported. 67% are for men (n=310 deaths) and the remaining 33% for women (n=150 deaths).

• Of the 460 deaths, 383 (83%), had an underlying cause of COVID-19.

• 67% of the total number of deaths with the underlying cause of COVID-19 is for men (n=256 deaths) and the remaining 33% for women (n=127 deaths).

• Male-female ratio is 2:1.

• Almost one in five deaths occurs in the 80-84 age group (n=89).

• The median age of people who ended up with the underlying cause of COVID-19 has decreased from 82 years in 2020 to 77 years in 2021.

• In December 2020 and January 2021 the highest number of deaths of people positive for COVID-19 has been recorded since the beginning of the pandemic, with the figure reaching 37% of the total number of deaths (85 and 86 deaths respectively). This is followed by April 2021 with 14% (n=66) and May 2021 with 13% (n=58).

• The highest rate of deaths of people positive for COVID-19 with the underlying cause of death is COVID-19, is for persons with permanent residence in Limassol province (n=138, 36%). and 1 death of a foreign resident.

• Limassol has the highest mortality rate per 100000 population (55.6 deaths per 100000 population). It is followed by Larnaca with 45.0 deaths and Nicosia with 37.8 deaths and with a smaller percentage the Province of Famagusta with 30.7 deaths and finally Paphos Province with 28.3 deaths per 100000 population.
