OVER 250 TELEGRAPH POLES BURNT - EAC WORKING TO REPLACE THE DAMAGE ASAP

 Filenews 5 July 2021

On foot in the areas affected by the devastating fire in Limassol and Larnaca is the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) aiming at the fastest possible repair of damage and the channelling of electricity for the needs of residents, said Authority Spokeswoman Christina Papadopoulos.

"We have 13 crews and teams of technicians who are all on the front line. There are dozens of Agency officials in the affected areas. The Director-General and the EAC President on the ground, who are co-planning the whole project to repair the damage as quickly as possible," she noted.

She said more than 250 burnt stakes have been recorded so far, with this number increasing and several damage to EAC's distribution network equipment recorded.

Some 60-70 burnt stakes were replaced, and generators were installed yesterday to feed the central core of the villages of Odos, Oras. Agios Vavatzinias, Arakapas and Dieronas.

"The goal is today up to 1500 to be fed by the network of the Authority, the communities of Sykopetra and Prophet Elias, which had no electricity as well as the Primary School of Iamatics which accommodates children of the affected areas. By 1800, Arakapas and Dieronas will be fed. The villages of Melini, Odos and the community of Eptagonia will also be fed by the night," she added.

She noted that the supply of the communities of Oras and Agioi Vavatsinias will take place at a later stage when generators will be installed that will be removed from other communities so that the inhabitants get electricity.

At the same time, said Mrs Papadopoulou, replacements are being made of the burnt piles in the central trunk of the network, which are also located within the forest area.

'In order for the EAC to be able to repair the damage to the central trunk of the network, a power outage must be made for safety reasons. We ask for the patience and understanding of the citizens," she added.

She noted that due to the fact that there have been many road disasters and there are difficult areas, other services are expected to open roads for EAC crews and vehicles to pass through so that they can go to the places needed to replace the stakes.
