Bones, which are prima facie human, were spotted at a point on the Akamas peninsula yesterday by visitors to the area. According to a police source, visitors noticed the bones at a spot near the sea where they had gone and after collecting them they informed the police.
A team from the Paphos Police Directorate went to the scene and received the bones from the citizens, while a further investigation was carried out at the scene to identify other documents and evidence.
The evidence found was transferred to the Paphos Directorate, according to the same source, and today they received the first scientific examination by experts in order to clarify first and foremost whether they are human remains. An anthropologist called to the Paphos Directorate has determined that they do concern human bones, which nevertheless refer to a long period of exposure to the area.
Therefore, the police authorities begin to 'dust off' files of old cases of crimes and missing persons in order to enable the identification of the person to whom the bones belong and the conditions of their existence in the area concerned.
