They surpassed every previous record of new cases of coronavirus, having for the first time broken the 1000 barrier in the last 24 hours with diagnoses reaching 1,081. At the same time, covid-19 patient hospitalizations are increasing in the country's hospitals.
The Ministry of Health announced 1,081 (positivity rate: 1.72%) new cases of COVID-19 disease detected by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 86,185.
Two new deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 382, while 159 patients are being treated in hospitals, including 41 in serious condition.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:
- Man, aged 86, who ended up in Larnaca General Hospital.
- Male, aged 77, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 382, of which:
- 256 men (67%), and
- 126 women (33%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77.3 years.
B. Hospitalized:
A total of 159 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, 41 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 41 patients in serious condition, 18 are intubated, one is hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 22 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 62,898 diagnoses currently carried out, 7,589 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 55,309 using the antigen rapid test, 1,081 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:
- 77 cases from 610 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 11 cases from 2,175 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 216 cases out of 4,229 samples taken through a private initiative.
- 9 cases from 195 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 5 cases from 380 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through Public Health Clinics.
- 96 cases from 2,472 samples examined using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 667 cases from 52,837 samples examined using the antigen rapid test.
