Dozens of apartment tenants in a residential complex in the Tombs of the Kings area of Kato Paphos today staged a protest, complaining that they have been barred from entering their homes by the actions of the owner of the complex.

The tenants specifically claim that the owner of the site has closed all four entrances to the housing complex on the grounds that some of them owe him communally. For months, they pointed out at the protest event, they had closed the three entrances and their passage to and from their residences was done on the one side only, but since yesterday as they complain it has been closed with a railing and the main entrance of the site.

The dozens of people who bought apartments in this complex or rented some of them, gathered outside the now closed main entrance of the complex and with placards called for the immediate removal of the illegal actions of the businessman.

They spoke of their hostage situation, of "living in Alcatraz prison", while also complaining that 19 closed-circuit cameras have been placed without their approval in the area to monitor them.

A police force was also rushed to the area to prevent any episodic situations, but the protest rally ended without any incident. The protesters pointed out that they would make representations to all the relevant services of the State to ensure the right to use their property which they claimed was being trampled on by the businessman.
