Vaccination coverage against COVID-19 has been increasing in all age groups over the past month, which is also reflected in the epidemiological indicators according to the latest National Report.
The marked decrease in the number of cases in all age groups, as well as the significant decrease in the number of nurses, largely resulting from the vaccination shielding of the population, improved the epidemiological picture, allowed the reopening of places and sectors of the economy and, by extension, led to the classification of Cyprus in the countries of the orange category according to the ECDC .
As part of the strategy to restart the economy and social activity, vaccination coverage of an increased proportion of the population of each Province has a positive impact on the recovery of economic activity, especially in view of the tourist season. Paphos Province remains first in terms of vaccination coverage of its inhabitants, reaching 63.7%. They are followed by the Provinces of Nicosia and Famagusta with 56.7% and 55.2% respectively and the Provinces of Limassol and Larnaca with 52.1% and 51.9% respectively.
The collective effort to create the protective wall continues with the achievement of the vaccination target with at least the 1st dose of 65% of the population by the end of this month being feasible. Up to 4 June, 54.9% received the 1st dose of the vaccine (393,724 people) and 34.9% completed their vaccination regimen (250,447 people), with Cyprus recording higher rates than the average vaccination coverage in the European Union (47% with 1st dose and 22.9% fully vaccinated).
The faithful observance of individual protection measures and the implementation of health protocols in professional settings, but also during the social activity of citizens, at the same time as the continuation of vaccination coverage, will keep our country on track for improvement.
