MAJOR ROAD WORKS

 



On the Larnaca Paralimni Airport motorway, between 13/05/2021 and 30/06/2021,daily except weekends, between the hours of 8:30am. and 5:00 p.m., maintenance work will be carried out on the greenery of the central islets, by the Department of Forests. During the work, in a section of the motorway from the Rizoelia Roundabout to Paralimn, the tangent lane of the central islet will be partially closed, from both directions for a length of 1500m. approximately each time and traffic will be diverted to the adjacent lane.

 

Also on the Larnaca Airport - Paralimni motorway, during the period 04/5/2021 – 31/5/2021,daily outside weekends, between the hours 08:00 – 14:30, tree pruning work will be carried out on the base of the road, by the Department of Forests. During the execution of the work, the left lane will be partially closed for a length of 300m. about, from both directions, from the Larnaca Airport roundabout to the Rizoelia roundabout. Traffic will be diverted to the adjacent lane.

 

Also, from the roundabout of Rizoellia to the roundabout of Kalo Chorio, during the period 07/05/2021 – 27/05/2021,from 07:30 in the morning until 15:00, work will be carried out to restore the road in part of the motorway. During the work, the width of the support will be occupied for a length of 100m. in the direction from Rizoelia to Kalo Chorio roundabout and appropriate traffic signals will be used.

 

On the Nicosia-Limassol motorway, from Wednesday 14 April, 2021 work will be carried out to improve the Kornos junction. The work will take 15 months and concerns on the one hand the improvement of the existing branches of the junction on the west side of the motorway, for entry to the motorway from Korno/ Pyrga to Nicosia and for exit from Limassol to Korno/ Pyrga, and on the other hand the creation of a new entrance on the east side, from Korno/ Pyrga to Limassol.

 

In sections on the Nicosia-Limassol, Nicosia-Larnaca and Nicosia-Kokkinotrimithias motorways, from Monday 18/01/2021until the end of May 2021, road repair work will be carried out from 8:00 in the evening of each day until 06:00in the morning of the following day, except Friday, Saturday and Sunday. During the work sections of motorways about 1000 metres long will be closed and traffic will be channelled into the opposite direction, where traffic will be two-way.

 

On the bypass road of Germasogeia,work continues to improve the road. Between 8 March 2021 and 19 July 2021,part of Psara Street, at its junction with Agios Georgios Street, will be closed to traffic in both directions. During the work, traffic will be channelled through Agia Paraskevi and Isabella streets and similar roads. At the same time, between 8 March 2021 and 26 May 2021,part of Tillyria Street, from its junction with Paros Street to Apollonia Street and part of Apollonia Street to Dedalos Street will be closed to traffic in both directions. During the work, traffic will be channelled through Agia Paraskevi and Potamia roads and similar roads.

 

In Nicosia, from Wednesday 19/05/2021, on Digeni Akrita Avenue, heading from the traffic lights of Agios Antonios to the traffic lights of Lycabettus, work will be carried out on the reconstruction of sidewalks and the configuration of parallel parking spaces on the south side of the avenue. For this purpose, one lane will be closed to vehicles. The road is expected to reopen with two lanes at the end of June with its final configuration.

 

Also in Nicosia, work will be carried out to rebuild the Mark Dragon roundabout from Monday, 17/5/2021 until Friday, 18/6/2021. During the work, traffic within the roundabout will be carried out with a single lane of traffic.

 

Also in the city of Nicosia, from 27/02/2021and for a duration of three months, the traffic lights of the intersection of Makarios Avenue, with the National Guard Street, rather than the Landmark Hotel (formerly Hilton), move further south by 15 meters to complete the construction work on national guard street. In particular, the connection between Makarios Avenue and Kallipolis Avenue will be carried out entirely through the temporary bypass of the National Guard Road. It is noted that, for vehicles moving from Limassol to Nicosia, the crossing to Chalkokdyli Street should be via Philimonos Street, while clockwise traffic to the National Guard Road should be carried out normally.

 

On Makarios Avenue, from the lights of the Lycabettus Police to the traffic lights at the junction with the National Guard Road, from 6 p.m. on Friday 21/05/2021 until 8 p.m. on Sunday 23/05/2021 the existing traffic lanes heading to Limassol will be closed due to pipeline replacement work by the Nicosia Water Supply Council. The two existing lanes heading towards Nicosia will be used by two-way passing vehicles.

 

In the Nicosia province, from Monday 19/4/21 and for a period of 6 months, except Saturday, Sunday and public holidays, between 07:00 and 17:00, road repair work will be carried out on roads in various areas. During the execution of the work, one lane will be partially closed at a length of approximately 200 metres and traffic will be carried out in the other lane, using a "STOP & GO" sign.

 

On the old Nicosia-Limassol road, between 06/04/2021 and 25/05/2021,between the hours of 7:00am. and 4:00 p.m., every day outside weekends, water pipeline construction work will be carried out by the Department of Water Development. During the work, part of one lane of traffic, the old road Nicosia - Limassol, from the "Stavrovouni Reservoir" to the pumping station of the TAV in Kofinou, heading towards Kofinou, will be partially closed at a length of about 100 meters (total length of 1200 meters, approximately) and traffic will be carried out in the adjacent lane, using temporary traffic lights.

 

Also on the old Nicosia-Limassol road, as part of the construction work of the Road Network of the Vasilikos Energy Centre, during the period 24/4/2021 - 23/10/2021,the eastern road connecting the old road Nicosia - Limassol with the port of Vasilikos will be closed to traffic police. During the work, traffic to and from Vasilikos will be diverted to the corresponding western road, via Marie, except for vehicles and pedestrians moving to and from similar properties for which the appropriate arrangements will be made.
