FIRE DEPARTMENT CALLED OUT TO 129 FIRES IN 24 HOUR PERIOD 2-3 May

The Fire Department responded to 129 fires between 06.00 on 2 May 2021 and 06.00 on 3 May 2021. Of these, 60 concerned Nicosia, 30 were Limassol, 18 were Larnaca, 13 were Paphos, 4 were Famagusta, while EMAC was called on 4 occasions.

According to a statement from the Fire Department, it responded on Sunday at 13.30 to a fire of two fire points, an area of 4 donums and 7 donums, with burning dry grasses, wild vegetation, 4000 pots, irrigation hose and various plants in the village of Tsadas to Mesa village in Paphos.

Members of the Police and Fire Department responded from Paphos Fire Station with three staffed fire trucks. A portable mobile unit  and two portable mobile units from the villages of Mesogi and Mesio villages were in the process of extinguishing.

Shortly afterwards, at 14.20, the department responded to a fire in a reedbed with an area of 1 hectare near the cemetery of Aradippou. The Police and Fire Department from the Larnaca Fire Stations responded with four staffed fire trucks as well as a private excavator.

On Sunday afternoon, at 17.14, the Agency responded to a fire of useless electrical appliances refrigerators, kitchens in a fenced area between Lymbie Village to Mosfiloti. The members of the Police and Fire Department responded with two staffed fire trucks

At 21.53 the Agency was called to deal with a fire of two hectares of dry grass wild vegetation near the shooting range of Latsia. The Police and Fire Department responded with a staffed fire truck.

Shortly afterwards, at 22.01 a fire broke out on an area of 1 hectare of dry grasses, wild vegetation and rubbish by the village of Anaia. The Police and Fire Department from the Lakatamia Fire Station responded with three staffed fire trucks.

At 02.10am firefighters were called to tackle a fire in a Toyota-branded vehicle parked in a makeshift car park outside a house in Limassol. The Police and Fire Department from the Agios Ioannis 'Sgt. Vassilis Krokos' Limassol Fire Station responded with a staffed fire truck and the fire was brought under control at 02.45. From the fire the vehicle was damaged in the engine area, the roof and rear area.

For most cases the causes are investigated in cooperation with the police. The remaining fires mainly concerned the burning of dry grasses, the burning of waste materials, refuse containers which caused slight damage to various other materials and premises.

During the same period, the Fire Department responded to 142 calls for help, 11 special services and 2 false calls.
