213 NEW CASES, ONE DEATH - THURSDAY

A 63-year-old man is the new victim of the coronavirus, bringing the total number of deaths of patients with coronavirus to 342. In the country's hospitals, 167 patients are hospitalized, 54 of whom are in serious condition.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health announced 213 new cases of coronavirus resulting from 74,926 molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 70,571.

In detail the announcement:

The Ministry of Health announces that today, May 13, 2021:

  • One person has died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 342.
  • 167 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 54 of whom are in serious condition.
  • A total of 74,926 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 213 (positivity rate: 0.28%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 70,571.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

One person who has died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concerns:

  • Male, aged 63, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 342, of which:

  • 226 men (66%), and
  • 116 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77.7 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 167 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 54 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 54 patients in serious condition, 32 are intubated, two are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 20 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 74,926 diagnoses currently carried out, 5,079 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 69,847 using the antigen rapid test, 213 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 43 cases from 597 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 51 cases from 1,661 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 12 cases from 419 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 10 cases from 1,138 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 97 cases from 68,709 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 2,325 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 77 samples taken as part of the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
