OPPOSITE COURSE FOR TWO IMPORTANT PROJECTS

Filenews 5 April 2021 - by Dora Christodoulou

This very positive development for the project of the new Paphos-city highway Chrysochous, is in direct contrast to the climate that exists in the province with regard to the second major project, that of the marina.

For the Paphos-City road, the climate is still festive following the recent announcement by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Giannis Karousou, of the final judicial unblocking of the project and its promotion, as soon as possible. Following the developments that have taken place for the project in the Tender Review Authority, the Department of Public Works has proceeded to award the competition "Study and Construction of the Paphos City of Chrysochous Motorway, Section 1 – Phase (A)" to the successful bidder, a development welcomed by the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry since it is now expected to start an infrastructure project for the city and Province of Paphos that has been under discussion for decades now.

In contrast to this project, the second major project of the province, that of the marina in Potima, is far from a corresponding course. Although recently, after telephone contact with members of the House Finance Committee, the E.P.A. was officially informed that the allocation for the award of the tender has been released, the whole process is getting more and more difficult once again. However, the province's authorities consider that, regardless of the lack of practical developments, it may also be a matter of time before the successful bidder is informed by the Ministry of Tourism, in order to proceed with this process, which due to the pandemic has escaped the timetables originally set.

The Hellenic Bank of Paphos will closely monitor the processes and timetables for infrastructure projects and where appropriate, appropriate interventions will be made for the common good and in the public interest, as recently mentioned by the Director of the Chamber, Marinos Stylianou.
