A proposal will be presented by the European Commission in March to create a pan-European digital vaccination passport, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said today, according to the Athens Agency.
"As for the question of what the digital green passport will look like, we will submit a legislative proposal in March," von der Leyen said during a video conference with German Conservative MPs.
A group of EU leaders, including the Greek Prime Minister, were pushing for the adoption of a digital vaccination passport, while the joint statement by European leaders referred to the need to "continue work on a common approach to the vaccination certificate".
Health Minister Jens Spahn also spoke out in favour of the introduction of a single European vaccination certificate into the EU on 26 February, noting that Germany would be ready within about 12 weeks.
