A WEEK OF ACTIONS DEDICATED TO THE USE OF SEAT BELTS AND CHILD SEATS WAS CARRIED OUT BY THE POLICE

 


A week of traffic checks and information actions, dedicated to the use of seat belts and children's lifting seats, was held by the Police, between the dates 08 and 14 March, with the aim of preventing serious and fatal injuries in road collisions and the consolidation of road awareness.

 

As part of the public information activities, members of the Traffic Headquarters Department and the Traffic Departments of the Provincial Police Directorates, held a series of lectures to school students, with visits to schools, as well as online, always in cooperation with the school Directorates, while members of the Provincial Road Safety Offices were hosted in various radio and television broadcasts, where they referred to road safety issues, focusing on the use of seat belts and child lifting seats.

 

At the same time, members of the Office for the Prevention of Enlightenment and Studies, the Department of Traffic Headquarters, conducted checks outdoors in schools and kindergartens, in order to inform citizens about the proper use of safety belts and restraint systems for children.

 

In addition to the information actions, in the field of policing and dealing with the phenomenon of failure to use a seat belt by drivers and passengers of vehicles, members of the Police carried out traffic checks on the Cyprus road network.

 

During the traffic checks, between 08 and 14 March, 416 complaints were made by members of the Police, including the non-use of a seat belt by drivers and passengers of vehicles.

 

Analysing the available statistics for the three years 2017 to 2019, it is found that 55.56% of drivers and passengers of vehicles who died in road collisions did not wear a seat belt .

 

The Cyprus Police places particular emphasis on tackling the phenomenon of the omission of the use of seat belts by drivers and passengers of vehicles and through daily traffic checks, but also by constantly informing the public, focuses efforts to address the problem, with the aim of preventing serious and fatal road collisions, the consolidation of road awareness and the increase of the sense of safety on the road network.
