The British strain of coronavirus was detected in 9 of the 24 positive samples identified in specialized tests by the Institute of Neurology and Genetics. The mutant strains from South Africa and Brazil were not detected.
The samples were for the period 22 to 28 January.
As the Ministry of Health informs from this week, positive samples will be sent to ECDC for further investigation into the new strains.
