In the discipline of the public in the new stricter decrees of the Ministry of Health invests the Police, which intensifies its controls so that there is no violation mainly in places of confusion and houses.
Yesterday morning the Chief of Police, Stelios Papatheodorou, via teleconference gave the latest instructions to the police directors of all provinces to step up checks both for yesterday's Eve and for new year's eve, but also for tomorrow Saturday, where all shops will be open and have offers.
According to the instructions, in the coming days police checks will be intensified especially in places such as department stores where there has been an increased concentration of citizens in recent days, hotels and busy streets, such as Ledra and Stasikratos, Independence, etc.
Already, the presence of police officers on the above streets is evident, while where there were complaints they also went into department stores and supermarkets. As mentioned in the teleconference, the intention of the Police is not to enter the homes of citizens, but only there and where there are complaints of exceeding the number of 10 people (for yesterday New Year's Eve) and from today for the presence of only normal residents.
The police also prepared a plan for smooth traffic on the roads yesterday after 1 p.m. when quarantine began after the change of time. As explained to the police officers, the police should be resilient for someone who goes home and is delayed for a few minutes.
In parallel with the measures, the Crisis Handling Centre in MMAD has been fully operational since yesterday and will be in constant contact with all police directorates to solve problems or handle any situations that may arise.
Meanwhile, 78 complaints of violation of measures taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus have been made in the last 24 hours by the Police. A total of 6,868 checks were carried out and five premises and 73 citizens were reported, most for not using a mask or not observing the distance of two metres.
