Positive drug test for drivers is also moving in high numbers this year, with Traffic concerned and stepping up its checks. From the beginning of the year until yesterday morning, i.e. in 13 days, 12 positive drivers were detected in drug test. Last year, over 550 drivers tested positive for drug use and will face the consequences in court.
According to the Police, in the week of 6 to 13 January, five drivers (three cars and two motorcycles) were identified in the week from 6 to 13 January with a positive indication. In fact, in one case, a motorcycle driver, in addition to being tested positive for the drug test, was riding his motorcycle, without a driver's license, a safety certificate and a protective helmet, while a small amount of cocaine was found in his possession.
Also, according to Traffic data, from 1 January to 6, seven other drivers were found driving under the influence of drugs. These numbers turned red in traffic that will increase driver narco test checks especially in the afternoon hours, since the restriction on traffic after 9 p.m. has been in place for some time. Last year, more than one driver was identified every day positive for a drug test, which shows the problem that exists and the dangers of such behaviours. If someone is tested positive for a drug test, then their vehicle is stopped and the driver is taken to a local station. The case after examination of a saliva sample by the State Chemistry and after scientifically finding that he was under the influence of drugs, is registered with the Court.
According to state chemistry test results, most who were positive for narco test appeared to have used cannabis or cocaine. With the new sentences in force since 1 October, if someone drives while using drugs, they are punished with imprisonment or a severe fine and if a second time is detected then the sentence is doubled.
