227 NEW CASES AND 6 DEATHS, Wednesday

Six people died of COVID-19 disease, while another 227 cases of coronavirus were reported. Among the dead is a woman aged 28, with underlying diseases, who lived in Nea Eleousa Care Home and ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.

Detail:

- Six people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 163.

- 198 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 59 of whom are in serious condition.

- A total of 13,298 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

- 227 (positivity rate: 1.71%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 28,124.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The six people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

- Woman, aged 28 years, with underlying diseases, who lived in Nea Eleousa Care Home and ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.

- Woman, aged 89, with underlying diseases, who ended up in her home.

- Woman, aged 91, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Limassol General Hospital.

- Woman, aged 77 years, without mentioning underlying diseases in the death certificate, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

- Woman, aged 85, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Famagusta General Hospital.

- Male, aged 78, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Famagusta General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 163, of which:

- 107 men (66%), and

- 56 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79.5 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 198 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OSY hospitals, 59 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 59 patients critical, 30 are intubated, six are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 23 in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 13,298 laboratory diagnoses currently carried out, 2,468 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 10,830 using the antigen rapid test, 227 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 63 cases from 478 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 30 cases from 1,097 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 22 cases from 363 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case of 2 samples taken under the control of the Cyprus Basketball Federation and the Cyprus Volleyball Federation.
  • 111 cases from 10,830 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 231 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 47 samples taken as part of a re-examination carried out on the 7th day following the arrival of persons who have returned from the United Kingdom and are under mandatory restriction in hotels in the Republic.
  • 250 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
