The first vaccines are received today in Cyprus, and on Sunday the first vaccinations will take place in a nursing home and in the Reference Hospital.
The vaccines will be received by the Minister of Health, Konstantinos Ioannou and the European Commissioner for Health, Stella Kyriakidou, who will make short statements.
President Anastasiades wrote yesterday on twitter that in the next 24 hours, hope becomes tangible as we are ready to welcome the vaccine, the gift of the scientific community to humanity, and begin to slowly set up the wall of opposition to the spread of the pandemic.
The Minister of Health in an earlier statement spoke of the beginning of the end in a long way and the Commissioner told you in the CYPE that it is not vaccines that will save us, but vaccinations, assuring that the safety of the vaccine outweighs the speed for the EU.
Furthermore, in a statement to the CYPE, the head of the epidemiological team Konstantinos Tsioutis recalled that in order to be able to say that we are safe, a high percentage of the population will have to be vaccinated and this will be possible, in accordance with the vaccination programme, by the summer.
He said the targeted measures would continue until then, depending on epidemiological data, but he made it clear that it was estimated that they would not be as stringent as they are now.
