THEY ARE AWAITING LEGISLATION TO REMOVE ADVERTISING SIGNS

Filenews 12 December 2020 - by Dora Christodoulou

The removal of the huge racket-type signs from businesses within the municipal boundaries of Paphos, decided by the Municipal Council at its meeting of 24 February, is yet to be seen by the citizens. Although the municipal authority decided to remove these giant plates on the one hand since they are unsightly and directly in contrast to the scale of the built and natural environment in Paphos and on the other hand because they provoke a strong reaction of other traders, but also of residents, these structures are still in place.

The reason for this delay, they specify by speaking to the 'F' municipal sources, is the non-promotion of the relevant legislation for a vote, so that the authorities concerned have the right to intervene and to impose on undertakings the removal of these aesthetic plates,

These giant signs are located in busy parts of the Municipality of Paphos and mostly concern specific supermarkets and fast food outlets. They are located on the avenues Tombs of the Kings, Apostle Paul and in the North Bypass.

The removal of the "racket" type inscriptions is again seen as a major action for the Municipality of Paphos, since the complaints were strong from citizens that while much smaller signs are being removed from businesses in the context of favouritism, these huge signs remained undisturbed due to the size of the businesses.
