The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 12, 2020:
- Two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 77.
- 113 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 16 of whom are in serious condition.
- A total of 11,917 disease detection tests have been carried out, of which 4,607 have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 7,310 using the rapid test.
-324 new cases of the disease were detected and confirmed by molecular tests (PCR), bringing the total number of cases to 14,800. The 324 include 143 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days.
- In 202 cases the rapid antigen test had a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:
- Male, aged 82, with underlying diseases, who was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital.
- Male, aged 88, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized at Famagusta General Hospital, after being transferred from panagia nursing home, Limassol Province.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 75, of which:
- 51 men (66%), and
- 26 women (36%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 78 years.
B. Hospitalized:
A total of 113 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYP hospitals, 16 of whom are in serious condition.
Of the 16 patients critical, 10 are intubated, two are hospitalized in the Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and four in the Increased Care Unit.
In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:
C. Molecular Examination (PCR test)
Of the 4,607 laboratory diagnoses carried out today using the Molecular Method (PCR), 324 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, resulting as follows:
- 62 cases from 807 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 3 cases from 902 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check.
- 84 cases from 2,010 samples taken through a private initiative.
- 17 cases from 280 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 2 cases from 243 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through Public Health Clinics.
- 12 cases from 99 samples taken under the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures.
- 1 case of 40 samples taken under the migrant structure control programme.
- 143 cases from 148 samples taken for verification using the molecular test method of positive results detected through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- From samples taken as part of the student, teacher and school staff control programme, a laboratory diagnosis was completed, and
- From samples taken from the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tylliria, 77 laboratory tests were completed.
Of the 7,310 tests carried out using the rapid test, 202 positive results were obtained.
These 202 cases will be examined using the PCR molecular method in order to be verified.
In detail, the rapid antigen detection tests were carried out today as follows:
Above -Limassol, Larnaka, Nicosia, Paphos, Ammochostos, National Guard, Teachers/Educational establishments, Health Professionals, Private Initiative
