349 NEW CASES, FOUR DEATHS ON MONDAY, PLUS 212 RAPID TESTS to be confirmed by PCR

The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 14, 2020:

- Four people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 82.

- 123 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 16 of whom are in serious condition.

- A total of 9,951 disease detection tests have been carried out, of which 3,117 have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 6,834 using the rapid test.

- 349 new cases of the disease were detected and confirmed by molecular tests (PCRs), bringing the total number of cases to 15,450. The 349 include 142 verifications from rapid tests in the previous days.

- In 212 cases from the rapid antigen detection tests there was a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).

Here are today's results in detail.

Deaths from COVID-19:

The four people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

- Woman, aged 85 years, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized at Famagusta General Hospital, after being transferred from the nursing home Timothy.

- Woman, aged 86 years, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized at Famagusta General Hospital, after being transferred from the nursing home of Peristeron.

- Male, aged 96, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized at Famagusta General Hospital, after being transferred from the nursing home of Agios Antonios.

- Woman, aged 89 years, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in Limassol General Hospital, after being transferred from the nursing home Ekali.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 82, of which:

- 52 men (63%), and

- 30 women (37%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 78 years.

Hospitalized:

A total of 123 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 16 of whom are in serious condition.

Of the 15 patients critical, 10 are intubated, two are hospitalized in the Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and four in the Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

Molecular Examination (PCR test)

Of the 3,117 laboratory diagnoses carried out today using the Molecular Method (PCR), 349 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, resulting as follows:

  • 119 cases out of 793 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 4 cases from 995 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check.
  • 50 cases from 472 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 31 cases from 402 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 2 cases from 220 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through public health clinics.
  • 1 case of 86 samples taken under the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures.
  • 142 cases from 149 samples taken for verification using the molecular test method of positive results detected through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days.

RAPID TESTS

Of the 6,834 tests carried out using the rapid test, 212 positive results were obtained.

These 212 cases will be examined using the PCR molecular method in order to be verified.
