Pressure and reactions from frozen branches of business, as well as from church leadership, seem to be leading the Government to speed up the review of some restrictions. Although final decisions have not been taken, however, the relaxation in the major shopping centres seems to be close, in view of the Christmas market.
The images recorded at the weekend on the commercial streets of the cities showed that some of the measures that have been in place for a week cannot give the desired results in terms of trying to stop the dispersal. With the background angering business circles and pushing for a change in the provisions of the decree, Health Minister Konstantinos Ioannou will today meet online with the representatives of the major shopping centres, on whose side OEV was yesterday publicly opposed, stressing the need to continue the economic activity of businesses while tightening protection measures and penalties.
There is also a great possibility for a revision of the decisions concerning the congregation of believers on the days of Christmas, New Year and Epiphany. Today, moreover, the Holy Synod meets to finalise a proposal to the President of the Republic requesting a partial lifting of the restrictions.
Behind the scenes and the request for the reopening of the dining areas, which at the moment does not seem to be being promoted since the Government has already announced that if they are given relaxes in terms of their opening hours, they will be given after 23 December.
Yesterday we had four more deaths and there was an increase in the number of patients in hospital. A total of 123 people were hospitalised, with 16 of them in critical condition.
