FORTY-ONE PRIVATE HOSPITALS INTERESTED IN JOINING GESY

Forty-one private hospitals from all districts, including big clinics in all towns, have expressed their interest, a few hours before yesterday’s deadline for submitting applications, to negotiate their accession to GESY (National Health System), according to OAI (Organisation for securing health).
“We are pleased with the interest shown. We will negotiate with them and hope to conclude agreements soon,” OAI director Andreas Papaconstantinou told Fileleftheros yesterday.
He said OAI would be flexible when it comes to certain peculiarities relating to specific hospitals. Negotiations, he explained, will be based on the memorandum of understanding signed between the Minister of Health and OAI on one hand and the Pancyprian Association of Private hospitals on the other. If more hospitals declare their interest, negotiations may not be conducted on this same basis, he added.
So far, he continued, negotiations with some hospitals have indicated that they could be unpredictable.
“We are close to an agreement with some of them, with others we seem to be apart. I cannot promise that on June 1st all hospitals will have jointed GESY,” he concluded.
