The government is pushing for legislation which will ban alcohol consumption in public places, such as squares, parks, streets and footpaths.
Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdios will send to the parliament, within two months, the relevant bill, which is being fine-tuned. The objective is to have the bill approved immediately so that it will enforced during this year’s tourist season.
This, it is said, will increase the feeling of security for tourists as well as locals, especially in areas such as Agia Napa. Perdios said other countries, like Croatia and Spain, have recently passed such legislation.
