CHANGING A PERSONAL DOCTOR IN GESY - WHENIS IT ALLOWED AND WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW

CHANGING A PERSONAL DOCTOR IN GESY - WHENIS IT ALLOWED AND WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW - Filenews 6/11

The choice of a personal doctor is the right of every beneficiary of the GHS.

But what happens when the patient wishes to change the doctor on whose list he is registered?

The Health Insurance Organization provides specific rules for the change of personal doctor, with different treatment for very young children.

When can we change personal doctor?

As a general rule, the beneficiary can change personal doctor after twelve months have elapsed since his or her registration on the list of his existing doctor.

This means that the change cannot take place indefinitely, at any time.

What about children?

For children who have not reached the age of two, the HIO provides for an exemption from the twelve-month limitation.

Parents can therefore change their personal doctor for their child without the need to complete this period of time.

How do we choose a new doctor?

The beneficiary can search for a personal doctor participating in the GHS and confirm that he accepts new registrations.

Before proceeding, it is useful to check whether the required period of stay on the existing list has been completed.

Why does choice matter?

The personal doctor is a key point of access to the GHS, as it monitors the health of the beneficiary and, where necessary, issues referrals for specialist doctors, examinations and other services.
